What are the benefits of breastfeeding?
Breastfeeding has many benefits for your baby. Breast milk is
rich in nutrients. It helps protect your baby against infections.
It also helps prevent your baby from having allergies.
Breastfeeding also has benefits for you. It's clean
and simple--you don't have to wash bottles or mix formula. It's
cheaper than using formula. It helps your uterus contract back
to normal size after having been stretched during pregnancy.
It delays the return of your periods (though you shouldn't count
on it to prevent pregnancy). And it helps make time for you to
be close to your baby.

Benefits to Mothers
Breast-feeding is good for new mothers as well as
for their babies. There are no bottles to sterilize and no formula
to buy, measure and mix. It may be easier for a nursing mother
to lose the pounds of pregnancy as well, since nursing uses up
extra calories. Lactation also stimulates the uterus to contract
back to its original size.
A nursing mother is forced to get needed rest. She
must sit down, put her feet up,and relax every few hours to nurse.
Nursing at night is easy as well. No one has to stumble to the
refrigerator for a bottle and warm it while the baby cries. If
she's lying down, a mother can doze while she nurses.
Nursing is also nature's contraceptive--although not
a very reliable one. Frequent nursing suppresses ovulation, making
it less likely for a nursing mother to menstruate, ovulate, or
get pregnant. There are no guarantees, however. Mothers who don't
want more children right away should use contraception even while
nursing. Hormone injections and implants are safe during nursing,
as are all barrier methods of birth control. The labeling on
birth control pills says if possible another form of contraception
should be used until the baby is weaned.
Breast-feeding is economical also. Even though a nursing
mother works up a big appetite and consumes extra calories, the
extra food for her is less expensive than buying formula for
the baby. Nursing saves money while providing the best nourishment
possible.

Breast Smart

Smart Gel Packs

Women who have breast surgery or
who breastfeed their infants often suffer from significant discomfort
and pain. Struggling to find relief, many women suffer in silence
despite an easy solution to their problem.Medical experts have
often advised patients to use cold compresses on their breasts
to alleviate pain and discomfort associated with breast surgery
recovery, breastfeeding complications, breast engorgement and
medically-related conditions. Until now, there
was not a product available to cover the entire breast comfortably
that could both heat and cool the affected area.
BreastSmart, unlike other gel packs
on the market, offers complete relief and comfort because BreastSmart
gel packs cover the entire breast rather than just a small section.
BreastSmart
Gel Pack Product Details
BreastSmart Gel
Packs are shipped in pairs,
so you have a pack for each breast. Each gel pack is 11
in diameter, making it large enough to cover the above-average
breast or smaller. The round pack has 4 V-shaped notches which
allow it to conform to the shape of your breast. Our high quality
ingredients include a non-toxic, polymer filled gel pack covered
with soft fabric so that the initial contact with skin is comfortable.
They are strong, durable, reusable and proudly manufactured in
the USA.
Why
use BreastSmart Gel Packs?
- Promotes healing and provides
relief after medical and elective breast surgeries
- Ideal for alleviating discomfort
due to breastfeeding complications (e.g. mastitis, breast engorgement)
- 11 diameter covers the
entire breast area
- Easily conforms to the contours
of your body
- Can be frozen for cold therapy
or microwaved for warm therapy
- Remains flexible while frozen
- Freezes quickly for re-use and
retains temperature longer than traditional ice packs
- Soft cloth surface provides
a thermal barrier to eliminate frostbite and the potential discomfort
associated with initial skin contact
Why
Use BreastSmart Gel Packs After Surgery?
Most physicians recommend
the use of hot/cold therapy after medical and elective breast
surgeries. These types of applications promote healing, reduce
swelling, and provide pain relief.
In the past, limited
hot/cold therapy options have been available to women after breast
surgery. Many women have been instructed to use traditional ice
packs or frozen peas for relief. The problem with these methods
is that they do not encompass the entire breast area. In order
to treat the entire area, a woman would need to use numerous
ice packs numerous times. Frozen peas are a slight improvement
because of the size of the bag. However, the rectangular design
of the frozen pea bag is still impractical and does not conform
to the shape of the breast.
Why
Use BreastSmart Gel Packs During Breast Engorgement or During
Breastfeeding?
Breastfeeding is a special
bonding time between mother and baby. Most experts agree that
breast milk is the healthiest form of nutrition for a growing
infant. Unfortunately, many women experience complications such
as mastitis and clogged milk ducts during breastfeeding. These
conditions can be extremely painful and make breastfeeding difficult
and undesirable.
Breast engorgement is
typical for breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding women after childbirth.
It is often very painful. If not treated properly, it can take
up to a week to resolve.
Like breast surgery recovery,
these conditions have had limited hot/cold therapy options in
the past. Most women have been instructed to use traditional
ice packs or frozen peas for relief. These methods simply do
not meet the needs of a new mother. Numerous ice packs or bags
of frozen peas need to be used numerous times in order to cover
the entire area. Our superior design covers the entire breast
with one application! BreastSmart Gel Packs are strong, durable,
and easily sanitized for reuse.
